WFGS and the 200th Anniversary

On July 17, 2021, it will have been 200 years since a ceremony exchanging flags took place in Pensacola, officially transferring the territory of La Florida from Spain to the United States. The West Florida Genealogical Society has participated by providing researchers for the 1821 Sampler project, in which we have tried to identify every individual who would have been in the Pensacola area for the exchange of flags.

An article in The Pensacola News Journal on Saturday, April 24, indicated that the Sampler project was live and hosted on our website. This is incorrect: We are hosting the raw data and source list only, for researchers who are interested in the information. You can find links to those documents below.  The Sampler web page will be hosted elsewhere, and is expected to go live by July 2021.
